A sport scientist by education, Joe hasa doctorate in Clinical Biomechanics from Manchester Metropolitan University, and has previously worked in wearable technology, as a scientific advisor to a global garment manufacturer. It was in this role he started scoping the potential for using textile integrated sensors in high value manufacturing, before spotting an industry gap to use simple consumer technologies to provide cost-effective alternatives to typical Industry 4.0 solutions.
Joe started Elements Technology in January 2018, winning both the Digital Catapult Hack and Pitch, and the Rolls Royce Innovation Award in March that year, before raising £250k from the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund in November. Elements Technology now has a small team based in Sheffield, and will be launching their technology platform on May 15th at elementstechnology.co.uk.
Joe is passionate about supporting SME manufacturers, and regularly gives talks to the Manufacturers Alliance and Northern Automotive Alliance, demonstrating simple technologies and proposing that SMEs look outside of Industry 4.0 for technologies that better fit their resources and needs.
